Chris Bearman - Resident Conductor

Since taking on the role of Resident Conductor in May 2018 Chris
has lead the band on several concerts, and most recently in
January 2020 took on the challenging task to lead the band at the
Butlins Mineworkers Contest held at Skegness. The band were
awarded 3rd place overall and gained many plaudits for the sound
and presentation at this tough contest.

Chris also continues to work with our professional MDs as part of
other contest preparations.

3rd Place at the - London & Southern Counties
Area Contest 2019

Another podium finish for the band and Dr David Thornton (MD at
Grimethorpe Colliery), leading the band at this contest with the fine
composition 'Seascapes' by Ray Steadman-Allen.

The band enjoyed working with David who gave insight in to the
preparation and focus to contests from his many years as a player
and MD of a top flight brass band.

Seascapes was the Test Piece for the 1988 National Finals at the
Royal Albert Hall and was the first time Redbridge Brass qualified
the finals conducted then by Graham Chambers.  The band still has
four players who were in the band all those years ago!

One of the top brass band contests running today in the
UK, with a set test piece Songs of Ascent (by Jonathan
Bates) and an Entertainment programme featuring soloist
Cliff Pask (pictured) playing the beautiful cornet solo, Share
My Yolk (by Joy Webb).
Competing under the baton of Chris Bearman for the first
time the band achieved 3rd place overall, a fantastic result.
Moonlight and Romance - Feb 2020
A fantastic concert programme included Beethoven’s iconic Moonlight Sonata and Debussy’s Clair de Lune
played by guest soloist, concert pianist and teacher David Silkoff.
David demonstrated his mastery on the piano creating beautiful cascades of sound, a rare opportunity to
hear these works performed in such style.

Talented violinist Chris Karwacinski, who also plays tuba for the band, showed his fine musicianship with
Massenet's Meditation and a splendid Tango by Gardel accompanied by the band.  With music from Rimsky
Korsacov’s Scheherzade, Wagner’s romantic opera Lohengrin and the beautiful Girl with the Flaxen Hair plus
more contemporary music like Michael Buble's Cry Me a River featuring Dave Wallace on trombone.
